Ambassador Model AM12 transistor (1960)

Next

Okay, okay . . . we're reaching here. This humble transistor probably has no historical significance, and its simple design won't send anybody into a swoon. But, c'mon now—haven't we all had one of these floating around the house one time or another?

Yes, it's the quintissential el cheapo radio! With 12 transistors, it gets fine reception. And you couldn't dent its tough plastic case with a baseball bat. Kick it around the playroom, leave it out in the rain all weekend, who cares—nothing fazes it. Like Mozart and cockroaches, this durable kind of critter will probably outlast us all.
