RCA 1-T-5J "Globetrotter" Transistor Radio (1959)

You turn on this radio by sliding a cylindrical cover up to expose the dial. The same sort of flip-cover power switch was found in earlier tube portables such as my Motorola 51M1U. Fat thumbwheel knobs to the left and right of the dial control volume and tuning.

I've gotten a lot of use from this radio. It's a convenient size, takes ordinary flashlight batteries, and performs well.

RCA used the Globetrotter name for at least three aluminum -faced portable radios. Check out my Model BX-6 for more information.
