Sparton Model 557 "Sled" Mirror Radio (1936)

A gorgeous radio from the collection of Pete Liekkio, who provided this photo. With chrome ribs wrapping around the blue mirrored front, this radio is exceptionally stylish.

Sparton made some of the most famous mirrored radios of the 1930s. My Model 154B Bluebird is another very recognizable set, and that page also features a photo of the stunning "Nocturne," a four-foot high mirrored console.

The Bluebird and Nocturne were designed by Walter Dorwin Teague. I'm not sure about the Sled, although it was produced by the same company at the same time.
