Radio News Magazine, May, 1948
The caption for this cover photo reads:
The girl on the cover is Diane VanDusen, one of the famous
Aqua-maids of Florida Cypress Gardens. Her father is R. H. VanDusen,
President of Southern Corporation, Morris F. Taylor Company's
manufacturer's representatives in the southeastern states.
Portable radios got a lot more portable in the years following
World War II, thanks to the availability of low-voltage,
all-glass miniature tubes. The radio shown on the cover is quite
a bit larger than the sets which started to appear from 1948 through
the early 1950s.
Elsewhere in this issue is an ad for the new
Westinghouse Model 185, a smaller burgundy-and-white plastic set
similar to many of the Tube Portables shown
in our gallery.
