Zenith Model H723 AM/FM Bakelite Radio (1951)
Combine a dramatic, assymetrical cabinet with large size
and you have a radio that's impossible to miss. I like the
way that the grill forms an open overlay over the seamless
grill cloth. Not many radio designs get so much effect
from a humble piece of patterned cloth.
This AM/FM model sounds really swell. Zenith made several
723 and 724 models that look quite similar,
including my Zenith Y724.
Fans of the former TV show News Radio should be able
to spot an H723 exactly like this one. Look for it in
Dave's office, on the lowest shelf right behind his desk.
Last year an old wooden cathedral radio sat in that spot.
There were one or two other collectible radios on that
set during the same year.
