Radio News Magazine, March, 1947
The caption for this cover photo reads:
Part of the extensive array of communications equipment that will
accompany the Gatti-Hallicrafters Expedition for use at the main base
in South Africa.
The receiver in use is a Hallicrafters Model SX-42,
which you can read about in our Communications gallery.
Nowadays, people complain about
"product placement," which allows manufacturers
to feature their products—everything from soda pop to luxury cars—in a movie. If you think
about it, this cover
is really just a Hallicrafters ad,
presented in the guise of news. Hallicrafters heavily promoted
the Gatti expedition in various ads of the time.
The same device was used a few years later to promote the
Hallicrafters SX-88.
